I have been using CORAL VITAL for about two months now,Within a week
coraline algae went on a bloom covering base rock that was previously plain.recently the purlple algae has started taking off and the pink has subsided.I also use BLACKPOWDER and SPECTRAVITAL have been using now a little over a month already many organisms are growing on live rock that weren't present before.I even noticed a littl porites coral growing
on a rock.In addition a baby LT anemone that i rescued from a LFS that was already bleached has started to grow and is getting color back.I attribute this to the blackpowder and spectravital that i have been target feeding it to.I have also noticed a colony of Zoanthid like(except they have a skeletal corallite)corals growing alover a piece of Liverock. My
Xenia (pom-pom and elongatus)which were not really thriving just living
are on a growth spurt dividing and expelling polyps out the base.Frogspawn coral has divided into four heads.Purple Acro green polyps seems to have started to grow(before was just living)I dont have
a lot of light just 4x36w PC's on a 30 gallon tank also copepds in tank
are reproducing which my Mandarin goby just loves(he wont eat anything else.Since swithing to his products I know longer use iodine or any other
trace elements Just kalkwasser dripped everyother day.By the way the "myth" that xenia wont thrive without iodine I don't think is true.when
my xenia were in a funk I thought it might have been iodine defeciency
i then started dosing with Lugols iodine and didn't get any reproduction
until i starded using the Coralvital and his other products.

Good question. I asked the same thing at wet web media. One of the senior members, who has published popular books, responded. He told me that most of the experts in the field think they don' nearly live up to their claims. He told me that most people that brag on them are people that get it free. I have little experience with them though.

exactly Not worth the effort. Although all the growth and stuff you described is great, it can certainly be done without those products. It's nice to have a list of ingredients on addatives. Not with Mark Weiss products.

Hi,

I used the product that comes in the 16 and 32 ozss..their most popular one...and the coraline took off, unfortunately it also took off on the sides of the aquarium. Its a wash IMO.

any result that can be duplicated under the same conditions is fine for believe-ability

the issue is that one can achieve the same, or better, results, without it ;)

at that point-a product earns the 'snake-oil' moniker ;)

Or, if the results from a $173.00 bottle of "stuff" can be duplicated with a $3.00 bottle of apple juice.

I try to just do regular water changes. I also check the parameters in my tank. My tanks do great with that and all the inhabitants are happy and growing, including the coraline.

Hey gang,
I've just have to add my input to this post. First off, I have to say that I have No affiliation with Marc Weiss, and can not officially speak on their behalf. With that said. I've seen quite a few posts on this topic throughout several marine and coral forums around about Marc Weiss products. In these posts, I've read some fantastic reviews, and some that were not so great (put nicely). I couldn't figure out why every person within my network of fish geeks 8O were so happy with these products, while others were giving such harsh comments.

My findings:
First thing I learned was many of the people who gave neg reports had never tired these products, and just were spewing info from a friend of a friend’s cousin’s sister.
The second thing that was actually very surprising to me is that another company took over the original Marc Weiss Company and they have kept his name as well as the old products, so he no longer has control or say on the contents or quality of his old products.
With that said, Marc returns to the aquatic industry with four or five products. I have tried two of these products, and I can speak for them from first hand experience. They are fantastic!!!
Reef Bugs, and Soft Coral Grow are the only nutritional products that I now use in my tanks. I gave away all of my phyto's and marine snow (which I liked very much), because as I said earlier, this stuff kicks butt.

I have been using the Reef Bugs product for several months now, and I've never been happier with my coral or my tank. My pods are going crazy, and my tank is as strong as ever!!! One of my buddies even cycled his tank and used Reef Bugs to speed up the process.

I am attaching a link that I found to be very informative. This information comes from a husband and wife Dr. team who are doing coral research at the University of South Carolina. One's study is in coral cellular something or another (Just the title is beyond my scope). The other is in molecular coral nutrition (just as impressive). http://www.columbiamac.org/temphome/smf ... board=33.0

Over all, I can’t say enough about these products. If you have any questions, feel free to write me. If you want to learn more, check the link I’m attaching, and here is the link to Marc’s website.

I have a friend who uses Coral Vital. He started out with some basic live rock with a little coraline algae on it about a year and a half ago, and now his tank is a coraline algae haven. It's gorgeous.

You can say "snake oil" all you want, but results speak louder than words.

About once a year someone posts success. These people typically have 1 post.

Results do speak loud. I can grow coraline faster than I can scrape it off with a $0.25 bag of Calcium hydroxide. Please feel free to spend hundreds of $$ instead if you wish, it's your right to throw money away if you so choose.

Personally, I believe that anyone that would by additives with no ingredient list is probably a short term hobbiest.

Here is the ingredient list, from their web site: http://www.marcweissco.com/marine/coral ... vital.html

My friend has been in salt water aquariums for about 20 years. I wouldn't exactly call that "short-term," unless speaking from a tree's view point. What we must realize when dealing with many things in this hobby is that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Stating an opinion as gospel . . . and then trying to back it up by how many posts someone makes . . . well, it comes across as if from know-it-all prat.

doesn't change the fact that the same results, or BETTER, can be obtained without it, 99% of the time ;)

i have yet to see anyone who uses weiss's products actually do their own comparison(s) to see if it's actually a worthwhile use of their money ;)

I stand corrected, an ingredient list has been published. Which opinion have I posted as gospel?

I do have an opinion about 1 post members pushing a product. Often they are a shill that's just spamming the board (in my experience). If that's not you then time will tell.

If your friend doesn't understand how to grow coraline after 20 years then, well, what can I say?
