Skimmer Cleaning ???? It's lost it's punch!

I use paper towels and pipe cleaning brushes to clean mine. I also make sure to use only tank water to rinse it out with. So the best time to do it is during a water change. Then you have water to rinse off the brushes and crud with. Don't use any chemicals or detergents!

If the skimmer has lost it's punch the first place I would start is the pump.

Chances are your impeller is loaded with crud or it's time for a new one.The rest of the cleaning is done with brushes and paper towels.If you have calcerous deposits white vinegar will do for dissolving them.

I've seen a few different methods of cleaning a skimmer that has lost it efficiency, however, most use some type of acid. I don't want to risk my investment so it's got to be done right the first time. Thanks in advance

By the way the particular skimmer is an ETS RD40 driven by a mag7 pump

KenB is right, there is no sence not cleaning
the pump when doing a major skimmer cleaning,
I use a baby bottle brush and cloth, the brush will bend at all angles to get into hard to reach areas, Vinegar definitely works
I also use the mag 7 as my pump !
