And glad you got your light problem fixed Coral. I had a space problem too. I was using the clamp light with a Cree LED from Home Depot. Can't tell you how many times I broke one trying to move something around.

:scratch: sure its possible not to run a skimmer on "most" tanks. in fact if you have enough algae you could concievably run a tank just on algae alone. However, its widely understood that micro algae is far more efficient at nutrient uptake than macro is. this is why you see algae turf scrubbers growing micro fauna rather than macro fauna. take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD6kA3xDPaM

BTW, I havent purchased any snails or crabs for over 7 years and dont need any to keep control on hair algae... However, I do use a skimmer 24/7 because I carbon dose and use ozone so need a skimmer for that.
