Skimz Monzter 201 ratings

Hey guys so im in need of a skimmer for my tank upgrade. Was originally looking at the skimz monzter DC 163, but aquacave has the 201 (not DC) on sale today as a daily deal for the same price as the 163. I figure its a bigger footprint and when the pump eventually needs replacing i can replace it with the 203 pump which would make it a 203.

Any thoughts on this? does it sound like it would work?
Should i just wait to see if the 163 comes onto sale?
Or should i just stick with the 163 on full price because it seems like it outperforms the 201 stat wise.

it can be a little pain at first but once you find the sweet spot and maintain water level in your sump its pretty easy from there, i have large fish and a heavy stocked tank and its a beast.

I actually may call up BRS and see if they can do a deal for me on the 203 in stead. The sale i originally mentioned is on AC. I chatted with BRS and they said they can def match the sale price and may even match a 5% off coupon I have for AC. So if they can take $70 off the 203, maybe ill just get that for 430.

I'm really not sure what I want to do. Such a big chunk of money to drop I'm too nervous to pull the trigger.

430 is not bad, how big is your tank? heavy bio load?

So i called BRS because I was told thats how they match prices, the guy on the phone wouldnt match the aquacave price with the coupon at 380, so i didnt even ask about getting the 203 for 430... So now i have about an hour to decide if i want to get the 201 through AC which i think im going to pass on.

Right now I have a 90 not too heavily stocked, but im upgrading to a 4 ft 120 gallon this summer which I would love to get a few more tangs in. So I guess we shall see what the next few weeks bring as far as sales.

At this point its too late to get the BRS match at 399, and i dont really want to buy through AC because ive heard Skimz CS sucks and through BRS you get to deal with BRS CS for warranty work.

I must say... i usually dont consider myself lucky.... but this time... I am. I waited out the sale and the one for today is the 163 DC for $70 off retail at $329. As I would rather buy from BRS because of the warrenty I will see if they will match and put me in for backorder being that they dont have the unit in stock, otherwise through AC it is.

I got my skimz through brs and am glad I did - because as you point out they handle warranty issues. My collection cup started leaking at the base seam after a few months and brs replaced it.

ugh theyre killing me. Cant price match and take preorder on an item they dont have in stock. BRS wont have the 163 in stock until early june. and its a daily deal on AC for the 163

O well... just ordered the Skimz DC 163 from aquacave. Got it for $312.46... what a steal. Ill take the $85 savings and deal with skimz customer service if I need to, but keeping the fingers crossed.
