I am looking into getting a RO system but it is all cery confusing. There are so many brands that look alike. I am thinking about getting Captive Purity 35 GPD Deluxe RO Filter System but i dont know if I have to get a DI canister. I have always had a slight Nitrate problem and can never get it below 20 ppm. I dont have any sps or $500 fish so the water doesnt need to be "perfect" just as good as possible. So my question is, what is the best RO system (id perfer not to go over $200) and do I need DI, Thanks

you want one with DI. i don't know what size tank you have but to me 35gpd is kinda slow, but depends on how much water you need to make and how fast you want to make it.

It really depends on how much you need to make, how much time you want it to take, and whether or not you're filling up a bucket you need to watch or a vat with a float switch. My 100 gpd AWI unit, hooked up to the sink in my apartment with no booster pump, makes five gallons in about two and half hours. That's fine for my little 34 gallon tank but would be a PITA if I had to make a significant amount. 35 GPD is weak, especially if your water pressure out in the woods is poor, but can be overcome if it's hooked up to a float switch (which can also fail! be wary) on a brute can or something similar and you're giving it a couple of days to fill up.

I would look at the value unit from BRS. I think you can get it for $125 and it's a 3 stage (sediment/carbon/di) plus a 75gpd membrane. You can add all the bells and whistles later if you want (pressure gauge, tds meter, etc.) The only important thing to have it the shutoff valve, but if you're making your water in an unused shower, not as important.

+1 and fast flush kit, if it doesn't come with it.

+1 The BRS value plus 4 stage is a good unit. Comes with PSI gauge, Digital TDS meter and a flush kit that will keep the membrane clean and then last longer.
