I'm looking to purchase a new skimmer and its between the Skimz 163 or the Super Reef Octopus 3000sss. I have 155 gallons total water volume. I'm leaning towards Skimz because of the smaller footprint but I hear great things about both.

I'm currently running an ASM G3.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

i am running a sro my self and love it skimz make good skimmers also so its up 2 u i just been using the sro line for few years now no issues so i favor reef octo

Thanks Dubs! Tough decision. The skimz is cheaper and smaller but my priority is getting the best piece of equipment for the tank. Might have to flip a coin. :)

Skimz DC 100%. Ive had the sro 2000 and the Skimz DC blows it out of the water. Get the biggest skims DC you can afford. You would be much better off then a sro.....

i have this one

if you could afford this one i would go for it

I'm afraid the 253 is out of my price range. I like the 203 but do you think its too much for 155 gallons total volume? The 163 is rated to 300 gallons if I'm not mistaken.

Let me put it like this I have the skimz sm163 on a 250 total water volume sps tank and it's skimming like no tomorrow collection cup get emptied every 2 days ,however I did order the sm253 just because I wanted something bigger in case I add another frag tank ..
So for your tank I would go with either the sm163 or sm203 ,either one you can't go wrong with!

9.5". It's very controllable/adjustable, especially with the DC pump. As long as it's not sitting it water too deep, I see it working well in much more shallow depths.

What is wrong with reef octopus?

I never ran one but I had buddies that did. They report that bubble blaster pump is too large for the skimmer body making it volatile. Tony scoots is the man to talk to about this. He had the SRO 2000 and now has a Skimz sm 203.
