When i had my t5's and my PC lights, my PH was constant at 8.4. After checking early in the morning my Ph levels i noticed that they drop when lights are off. With my LED's though, i have checked several times during different times of the day, and they are at 7.8.

many have told me not to worry so much but i do. is this common in LED's? is this because i have it hung 8 inches above the water instead of on the rim? anyone else experience this issue?

I can't imagine why the lighting would affect the pH of the water..aside from what we experience during the on/off cycle. If you were taking your pH measurements during the same part of the day, I'd be surprised if you noticed much of a difference.
The difference from earlier measurements to now could be from..
The tank being older now and having water parameters not as stable (or good, if you will) as they were when it was newer..due to increased nitrates for example.
A change in how often you do water changes
The fact that your windows are not opened anywhere near as often in colder weather as they are when it is nice out (fresh) (new) air brought into a home can make a measureable difference in pH readings.
Is the tank anywhere near your furnace..that too can make a difference.

I have halides and my PH is low. I don't think it's your lighting. I think a high fish load might be a reason (my reason) but not sure.
