I wanted to post a review of these frag racks I have started using.

After battling my fish spreading sand over my frags on the sand and losing a few I decided frag racks were going to be a must. I really was trying to avoid using them as I like the clean look without but for new or small frags I think it is necessary. Also I found that I really need some time before deciding exactly where I wanted to place the frags and this allows me that.

There are a lot of options out there from cheap (making them out of egg crate and gluing it onto a mag float) to expensive (frag trees and rocks). I was trying to stay on the cheaper end of the spectrum but not sacrifice aesthetics. Also I didn?t want to block light from reaching the bottom as I already have a crowded aquascaping. So I decided that acrylic would be the best material.

I looked on ebay at various options but the pure flow racks really stood out for several reasons: they fit the bill of being clear, held a good number of frags, strong magnets for thick walls and I like the idea of extra holes for water flow around the frags. So far I am really liking these and just setup my second one and it is already full.

GHA: Ok I am a bit ashamed about it. The rock I got came from someones tank here that had let it go so I inherited it. I also have a 150wh and was running it too long so have now cut back. I am now running bio pellets as well and didn't have a CUC but have some snails working on it now. I should have scraped the rock last water change but there are a lot of frogspawn frags in it.

JIM: I just noticed it building up going to siphon it next water change.

edd: Just for you 3 for 10. Ha!

Schlegelii: You know I never thought about that. I hae 1/2" acrylic and these magnets are strong. As you can see its loaded with rubble and no problems.

Not that it matters, but are the racks upside down? I figure they would be more stable with the magnets and lip on the under side or did you find they work well either way?

You know what I realized yesterday I have one set with the magnets under and one with the magnets up. Either way they are both holding up great and I have them completely full plus some on 1/2" acrylic. When I first saw these they actually had two version one with regular magnets and one with extra strong magnets for a few dollars more. When I went back to order I saw only one option (at the lower price) so got worried and messaged them and was informed they are only using the stronger magnets now but managed to save on shipping so kept the lower price. Also it was reported to me that a member here contacted them to get a custom one made based on his size constrictions. I don't know if this is a one time thing or if maybe they are open to doing custom work.

Well you can either add them directly to your rock work or yes you can grow them out a bit. In my case I have a bigger tank in NJ so before I bring them down I can hold them on the frag rack but I also got frag racks for down there because sometimes sand will blow over the frags (especially if on the bottom - duh) and they don't do so well. So I like to be able to let them grow up a bit. Also when they do grow and you are ready to frag you can do so and glue onto plugs and let heal/grow on the racks. Basically it just makes it easy to work with frag plugs until you decide you have something you really want to add to your rock and where to put it. Hope that helps

can i have a frag of the hair alge? LOLOLOLOLOL
:joke:

Yeh but its not just any hair algae so it will cost ya. Unfortunately I can't take the rock out to scrape it but Im winning the battle. The rock came with it and then I left my 150w mh on too long at the start. I have since cut back, added a bio-pellet reactor and the start of a CUC so Im slowly winning the battle. It kills me to look at though and to make things worse my clown has started hosting it at night :(
