Mag Drive external?

I am setting up my causin's 72 gallon tank and also a frag tank for myself. I know that the mag drive is labeled internal and external.

-The question is have someone ran it or running one externally and if so did you encounter any problems?
-What would you suggest for me to do when running one externally? Or it's pretty much just like using any external pump. Thanks

I have mag 12 and mag 18 running externally its just like running any other

That's what I thought too. Just want to make sure and not drill the sump for no reason. Did you run it through an elbow to the pump or just straight?

i have been using my mag24 for closed loop system for my 120 and its sitting right behind the tank on stand and i don't have any issues.
