Hey folks,
I am in line for a new/new to me skimmer.

I have potentially $200- $300 for this (dep. new or used prob) ...
Of course, I don't want to spend the highest limit

So, a bit of research and some experience leads me to these two skimmers

Which one would you recommend or given my stats would you suggest something different altogether?

Stats:
  • In sump skimmer- large skimmer section, and about 26-28" clearance
  • DT Size- 120 g
  • Sump size- 30g
  • Live stock- 13 fish, some are 3-4 inches, all are greedy
  • Feeding habits- 2-3 times a day on a cycle, 2-3 days a week they get heavy mysis/vitamin feedings
  • Nitrate issue still exists, but I am going to take out my DSB in the sump because it's just a detritus harborer.
  • I ma
y continue carbon dosing.

I am considering these two skimmers, because I figure I should get above the rating for my tank so that if I happen to 'overfeed' it'll be taken care of/ potential upgrades.

I read that the mesh mod is a requirement for increasing air flow. it seems to cost about
$2-5 plus about 10-20min to do it.

ASM threads suggest that the update can bring it to 15 lph which is comparable to the stats for the SRO 2000. At least that depends on which thread is correct...

I'll let it run for a few days before I do it.

I also saw one mod that makes the air intake hole a bit bigger.
