Dace,
I love my Halide/RB setup but will say that having seen Jaftica's dimmable ATI ramp up and down and the amazing color shifts that take place it's a hard light to pass on. I cannot see the led combo fixture being so much better that it warrants such a high price. (Honestly I think all the ATI stuff is overpriced but the fixtures do perform). Save your cash and buy a dimmable w RB strip. You will not be disappointed. The RB do give some shimmer but it is much more noticeable w the white strips over the blues

And Tony if you haven't had a tank w Halides, the shimmer is definitely something that you miss after moving to a non point source light fixture. And the shimmer does make for a much more "Real/Natural" look to the tank. Especially if you've done any diving in tropical waters, you know what I mean.

Dace go for it

If the price of the ati isn't too too nuts :fingers crossed: I may end up doing it in a year. That or I may just do a 6 bulb 60" + the reefbrites like recommended.

Thanks for the input. There is a few other reasons i like the new powermodule.
I like having light on my tank 24/7. if i do sunpower and RB i have to add moon lights as well. I also like the storm and clouds simulation. .Also look is important to me. The new fixtures would look a little nicer i think. I like how the led are independently programmable. Dusk to Dawn is more realistic. So many other features that are cool as well

wow, i just started following everything ATI T5. I unfortunately missed out on Brando's lights, but I'm going to aim for a 36 or 48 6-8 bulb set up.
2k not including lights is...steep for me. But I do wish you best of luck with them!!!!

Also, since this thread is pretty active:

I have a standard 120g, so 48". I would install the unit in a canopy (install wood ledges and the light would have at least 3 inches top and bottom to breathe, with 1-3 inches on the sides) because I'm not allowed to hang something from the ceiling and I figure it would negate the light spill...

Can I go with a 36" unit or keep it at 48"??

I would say go with the 48" 6 bulb, it will be plenty of light and look great.

Also have you looked into doing a diy hanging kit using some metal poles and bending it to make the light hangar? I know thirty5 built one for his AI sol blues and saltwaterbrooklyn made some nice brackets too.

Hope this helps!

People go 48" on 60" tanks all the time. But personally i don't like it. But it does work for some.

If u go 48" u need to cut out the side of the canopy for the ATI to cool properly.
It exhausts on the side of the fixture.
If your running a canopy on a 48" tank. I would look into a 36" light for ATI.

cool, thanks! I figured as much. Just have to build a frame within the canopy to hold the edges of the light OR make a s hook type deal to hang it within the canopy itself (as if it was the ceiling).

My canopy is about...10 inches off the water, and I could build it out to be even higher if the other options dont work/whatever is easiest.

/end thread hijack :)

I use 48in on my 60in tank and at first I thought will have shadow but no looks good. And even I like butter then have 60in. But like you said everyone like different and there is nothing wrong with it.BTW I just added blue reef brite today to my ATI 10x54w and love it will add one more on other side.

I know I was going to sand you a Pm, but not sure if I should get xho to compere. Will make decision tomorrow.

It all depends on your bulb selection with the t5's. Another thing to take under consideration is that some people run there tank lighting with the Xho. They have more par and a higher intensity, I think they will be a bit much with already a good t5 fixture. The non Xho work better as a supplementation from what i've read.

You are right, I don't like too much blue. The one give me just a little of blue and more crystal cool look. BTW I am sanding you PM.
