I was almost set to buy two Vortech MP40s for my future 100g tank (48x24 footprint) but I'm not so sure anymore. The Tunze 6105 seems like a good buy, I like the fact they include the wide flow nozzle now and that I would be able to position them at the back wall with the flow facing diagonally to the center of the tank. I would like to hear opinions of people who are using tunzes or both mp40s and tunzes. Also, can I control the tunze from APex and will it give me the same control-ability as their own controllers?

Thanks for any help

love my mp40wes and mp10es.
granted you can't angle them but there is no need to. you can physically see the circulating flow as is pulls upward and then pushes hard enough to spread flow in a 24X 48 area. btw i do run several but that is because i dont need to run them as high and i can put them in all different modes. with my apex i can put them all in a different mode at different times in 24 hours.

I just installed 2 MP40's in my 120 (48x24x24) and I will say this, I don't know how you can run a tank without them. Hands down the best thing I have ever bought for my tank. 24 hours after installing and running in reef crest mode I had to change my filter sock twice from all the crap that came off my rocks and sand. Polyp extension on my sps is better than it ever has been and the tank just has a " healthier " overall look today than it ever has. Won't ever own another pump.
THANKS to Phil. For the deal!

You cant go wrong with either. currently I switched to two Tunze 6095's in my tank because I like using them in a wave mode. These Tunze pumps are dead silent even while going from 0 to 100% creating a 1+ inch wave, and with my apex controller the programming is endless. I am able to achieve really random flow in my tank now with some programming help from RC forum).I got tired of the noise that was created with my Ecotech while running in short pulse mode. Now i am very happy with my Tunzes and I would purchase Tunzes over mp40 for my next build.

Thanks guys. That's the problem, you can't go wrong with either one. I can't say nothing about tunze because I've never used them- I really like my mp10s, the customer service is great but I had to replace dry side under warranty in both so in terms of reliability they are so-so to me. I heard tunzes are workhorses. What I would really miss are random flow modes like reef crest, can tuzne controller or apex do that too, or only wave mode? What drives me toward tunzes is the fact I can put them in the back and have both side panels clear for viewing.

with an apex or the newer tunze controller you can have random wave modes. i use the apex and use a combination of a few different profiles and timers to produce a random flow.
a reef crest mode can be achieved using a few profiles on the apex. each profile can have a flow strength , then you would use timers and a OSC command to turn them on and off through out the day.

this is where i began the programming for my apex+ tunzes. then i tweeked it to my liking. check it out

This is very helpful, thank you. As long as I can achieve a random flow just like reef crest mode on vortechs, I'm sold to tunze pumps. From what I read the new wide flow nozzle on the 6105 creates a gentle, wide flow pattern as mp40.
