Then i shut it off to do a water change: pump turns on, but doesn't move any water. Slight hum bout all i get. Time for a new pump or am i missing the obvious? Tia

It's a reef octo 150. I want to say pump is a sicce? Could be wrong though not sure what model. Its been working like a champ, out of mind/sight i guess

Sometimes propellers get stuck, try nudging it if that doesn't get it going, take it out and apart to make sure nothing's jamming it. Sometimes I just give my pump a good smack on the intake to get it started.

Chances are that the pump your using is the notorious sicce 2500 !!! One of the most amazing pieces of crap that sicce has ever produced, its only good for about a year and then thats what it does, and if your getting that hum , just take the pump apart and check your impeller that it doesnt spin in both directions cause if it does than that little plastic part that keeps it in gear and starts the impeller spinning is broken off and thats why your getting no bubbles and a semi silent vibration coming from the pump!!, i think the problem with this pump is that it starts too hard and it damages the impeller , so if you get a few impellers on standby than you will be fine but just get it changed and it will be fine............this happened to me 6 months ago and left my skimmmer dead in the water till i figured it out , over all though if you got the cash get yourself a tunze hydrofoamer and its all said and done!

Yup sicce psk 2500 thats the one , lol 7 out of ten people who own this pump , end up selling their skimmer thinking its no good and in fact its that damn pump , once you replace it , and trust me the time will come lol you will see a world of a difference , also if you dont wanna shut it down to clean out your crud bowl lol just lower the bubbles below the collection bowl and clean it then slap it back on and raise the bubbles......... Remember i warned you about this pump!!!
