diatoms are somewhat more dependent upon water quality that is caused by your source makeup, silicates are responsible most times ...the skimmer is dependent upon controlled water level ..baffles only segregate areas of the sump but can only insure 100 percent if you have auto top off... tunze is one of the best because of its optical sensor...remember to get proper circulation arround skimmer so not to inake water which has already been skimmed ...also outboard skimmers are always better because they are dedicated lines but must use more wattage for pressure volume demand. if you even skim a small part of the water which has aready been fractionated it reduces end product ouput
