I tried purchasing a used Vertex but could not reach a deal, the most I offered was $300.00, seller wanted $600 for a used skimmer that he said cost him $700.00, so he literally wanted to recover 90% of the value after he was done using it.

I think for pricing reasons I am going to go with a Magus, I just need to research on how to spot real ligitimate brands. I am seeing skimmers with same model number but different pump brands and or different body colors and in my opinion the same model should have the same pump and same body color across all stores, it's suppose to be the same model.

You can find new Vertex online for less than that used price.
Village Aquarium in Long Island sells new Vertex for less and I know they have some on their on their shelves.
I see you are in Newark and probably doesn't help.
Online prices are better also.

You were probably looking at the vertex alphas correct? They are the only vertex skimmers I know that cost $700. The alphas are different than the regular vertex, which are much more reasonably priced.

THe vertex IN-100 with a tunze pump would be excellent as long as you don't stock your tank to an extreme level. If you plan on really overstocking, take a look at the vertex IN-180. It's a much larger skimmer but even new shouldn't cost more than $300 if I remember correctly
