T5 suggestions

I'm finishing up my build, and I now need to focus on lights. I need to light a couple of shallow tanks and I wanted to try out T5's. I have never used T5's before so I need suggestions on a kit. I would like to do a retro instead of a fixture. Which reflectors and ballasts would be best?

Actually, with so many guys going to LEDS I see a lot of nice used fixtures for sale like ATI, TEK, Aquactinics I don't know if it pays to buy a retro kit. There are some sweet deals out there. I think TEK still has a retro kit if you choose to go that route.

I still have a T5 fixture over my 180 and often think about switching.
