Great looking stand. I have to ask why aren't the 2x4's in the above pic plumb to each other? There's a bigger gap on top than on bottom.

The 2x4 on the plywood is a brace for the 2x4 that it is under. The one that is not quiet plumb (is not tacked up) is a brace for the long 2x4. It’s just one of my extra safety measures

Ok here are some more pics of my stand. I wanted to know it anyone has ever tried to stain the trim around the tank. I am going to try tomorrow but if it does not work I am going to paint it black. On a side note l did the dumbest thing tonight after coming home from the city after a few drinks I decided that I was strong enough to move my tank by my self, well as you can see I did it but I would never recommended it to anyone else. :banghead:

The trim around the tank is just a thin veneer that is already stained. It probably has a coat of polyurethane on it as well. If this is the case, then you won't be able to stain it easily.

Try a small section on the backside of the tank first. If it works, great. If not, try sanding another small section on the back of the tank. Try to remove as much of the polyurethane and stain as possible, without sanding right through the veneer. After sanding, try staining it the way you like it. Again, if it doesn't work, it's hidden in the back.

FYI, paint won't take on top of polyurethane either. You'd have to sand that down as well. Try it on the back also......if the staining doesn't work.

i thought the trim was made of plastic that looks like wood

but i wouldnt know....i always buy tanks with the black plastic bracing

stand is looking good.......are u going to drill the tank or have a overflow box?

why not paint it a color that resembles the color of the stand

Because it is plastic I don’t know it the stain will stick to it, the only thing that I can think of is sanding it a little before applying the stain.
