Hello Reefers,

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove rust on my tank stand. I was thinking of using sand paper to remove the rust and then putting two coats of paint. The only problem is my tank is already established and I'm too lazy to take everything out. I fear if I do start removing the rust my whole tank would collapse on me. Do you think I can get away with it?

Any feedback would be nice.

Thank you.

I hate to assume anything, so is your stand the iron type one? If so, and depending on how bad the corrosion has gone. You can sand as much of it off, prime with rustoleum primer/sealer. Then paint it with rustoleum.:wink1: Of course it would be better if you could do the entire stand this way you could get to all of the corrosion. But I do understand what you mean a huge PITA to take the whole thing apart.

Well you can go about it a few ways but if u don't get all the rusty areas your doing it for nothing.Compare rust to Ich if u have 5 fish in your tank and 2 had Ich would you take out only 1 of the fish? If you don't get all the rust spots and then hit them with a rust inhibitor your rust problem will still be a problem.
