200 gal DD

hi i just got a 200gal tank and stand but made some mistakes on measurement and now my skimmer is 2 inches taller than the stand. the stand is DD monetary stand any ideas please

is this an in-sump skimmer or external one? You can have it sit outside on a pedestal on the side or back of the tank.

in sump and reefoctopus 220 elite skimmer just got it brand new

maybe i can cut the bottom of the stand and make like a platform of 2by 4 to raise the stand up the thing is it is lot of wait i don't know if it will hold

I wouldn't cut the bottom of the stand out as this is what holds the stand together. I have the same stand.

What i did was cut a hole in the top of the stand, just enough to get the skimmer cup in and out for cleaning. Check out my tank thread for pics.

k i think that will work out fine i am thinking to put a sheet of plywood under the tank to raise the tank up a little more so i can have around 2 inches clearance when i cut the top of stand to make a hole for skimmer cup

This should work perfect. I would seal up the wood completely, to be waterproof in case your skimmer goes nuts.

I would also cover the hole from the top of the stand with a piece of plexiglass. you don't want skimmate getting under your tank where you cant clean it. I put in the plexi and don't regret it at all. Just use a lot of silicone and put something on it til it dries.

k i understand about plexiglass but u lost me on sealing the wood

^^^. Good idea to do I case skimmer overflows or any equipment had. Amalfunctikng and get water on the wood. It protects the wood and ultimately the integrity of the stand

K but how can I seal the wood is it some kind of paint or sealent I can buy

I used Red Guard...it's made to seal up shower walls before you tile over them. I painted the entire inside fo the stand twice and did the platform the tank sits on as well. I also siliconed all the joints in the stand before painting red guard on.

Well i have picked up tank from guys that think the open part of the stand goes to the bottom and the closed part goes to the top

So turn ur stand upside down and that should give u about 4 inches depending on the stand

I added 2by 8s under the stand then put the bottom sheet back on it that is how centralave aquariums have done there 300gal dd stand
