Wood for Shelving

So I am doing another rack build and was all set to build it myself when I compared the cost vs a pre-made heavy duty shelf. I want to put wood on top to help distribute the weight. Can I use OSB and paint it? I know many people say it isn't that good around moisture but then I found this:

you can just paint and seal the osb and you should be fine just as a little extra insurance
