plate corals

hey ive been pretty busy in the past couple of weeks so i havent had a chance to post anything and i still need to handle some business with a fellow MR sorry dude u know who u are.anyway i was thinking of getting a long tentacle plate coral.has anyone ever had expierence with them.i was going to impulse buy but i didnt.any feed back will be helpful

LTP's tend not to do well. If you want a plate I'd go with a short tentacle plate instead

is it due to infections they get on their flesh .

Not sure J. But from everything I've read they always mention being hard to keep, this is from other fish keepers...maybe someone else can chime in. I've never personally had one for this same reason

We recently lost a LTP from infection (we think) our wrasses are sand spitters, not to mention the pistol digging constantly. He got sand on him a few times, though I was diligent in blowing the sand off shortly after it was spit/dug on him... he sucked in only to extend slightly. Within a week no extension. Dipped a few times over the period of a week or so, looked a bit better but inevitably we lost it.

I have since spoken to several people and many have said they are harder to keep than other plate corals. I was disappointed because it was doing very well for about a month, completely extended... until the sand incidents.

We won't be adding another anytime soon. Landscape is far and few between and there is so much to choose from, I'd personally rather choose things I know we can be successful with than things we may not be able to keep alive. Good luck if you decide on one.
