The only thing you could possibly do is take it out and ask someone with a more established tank to hold it for you to guarantee it staying alive. Or you could chance it.
If you are cycling your new tank, you are to expect an ammonia spike (it is the first step of cycling ) as it is necessary for the cycle.
You do not want to do anything to the tank to slow down or interrupt the cycle.

Added - what other critters are in this tank?

If the tank is cycling and you hope to keep what's on the rock alive do water changes. This may slow down the cycle, but will decrease the toxicity of the water and give the invertebrates a better shot at survival. Also, in your original post you stated that the shroom was "getting plenty of water movement." Mushrooms hate that. They prefer very low current and moderate to low lighting.

i would suggest you read thru this, it will help. http://www.asira.org/caresheets

also on the main page of www.nano-reef.com there are some great articles on cycling & how to be prepared.

as far as the water changes. Im not really sure you should be doing that. if anything maybe MAYBE 1 gal a week. but old school folk wont suggest it. you really should let nature take it's course. There are a million different ways to accomplish 1 thing in this hobby. What might work for me, might not work for you. So im not gonna knock it, cause i've never tried it.

BUT i wouldnt suggest it as common practice is to leave the tank be for 4-6 weeks. Or untill you get your first bloom.

good luck & keep us updated!
