my leather has white blotches and what appears to be white dots.in some areas. It pretty much happened overnight. the water parameters are fine and i did a water change about a week. please advise.
Are there any other corals near it that might have stung it? That happened to mine when my Kenya got so big it kept touching one spot. I trimmed the Kenya and the leather has been slowly healing back up.
nitrates around 5 to 10, ph. around 8.2 (a bit low,but in the range that my tank fluctuates), pc lights 265 wts. my tank (72 gallon) is pretty stable. happened after a water change. everything else is the same, andthere are no other corals next to it. thanks
It is possible. I have seen mine turn white and then shed over a few days period. Although usually when mine begins to shed, the polyps stop opening up, and this is not the case with his.
doesn't look like sheading. i've seen it she, it almost looks like bleaching, but i thought leathers don't bleach. the salt make sense as we just did a water change, and increasing water flow seems like a good idea. thanks folks. i'll update
My devils hand has the same. The tips are all white. The polyps still extend, very well. It is white at night when it deflates on each of the tips and when it inflates again during the day.
I will try and get pics tomorrow. This leather has grown since we've gotten it and has had the white blotches on the tips of the "fingers" since the day we put it in the tank.
Here is a picture of what I was talking about with my leather... not the best image but you can see where it is white. It has been like this since we brought it home. It has grown, polyps extend on the white part and off. It has planted itself on the rock and sheds normally etc. IDK why it is white but all the new tips/fingers that grow get white as well.
