GSP wont open

Hey guys my GSP has not open for over 3 days now. I'm doing a water change tonight, my question is how do I know if they are still alive or if they are dead?

What are your water parameters? How much flow is in your tank? Has anything changed in your tank right before they started to not open?

I havent change anything, The reason why im doing a water change is because my nitrates are pretty high 40ppm, I'm guessing that might be my problem but not sure. Everything else seems to be doing just fine.

Nitrates that high are a big problem. What are your other parameters?

you know its dead once it starts peeling off the rock or whatever you have it mounted to.

Have you checked your magnesium yet? I find that GSPs are particularly sensitive to low magnesium numbers.

What type of water are you using? 40ppm nitrate is bad.

WELL i JUST STARTED USING RO-DI WATER, I JUST DID A BIG WATER CHANGE ON WEDNESDAY AND THEY ARE STARTING TO POP OUT AGAIN.
