I have a spare 10 gal (20x11x13) tank i used to keep ghost shrimp in. Im thinking about using it for a fragging tank for my 75. If i put a 24 in pc light (the tank is shallow - 13 in) and put in a powerhead and maybe a canister with activated carbon, can i use it as a fragging tank? There would be no skimmer.

I actually have a better question, since i realized i dont have another phosban i can't do a frag tank with the 10 gal.

I'm breaking my tank down to paint the room its in, and im going to set it back up in about a month. Meanwhile, since all i have is live sand and rock, i am going to set up a small shallow rubbermaid to keep the rock "alive" while the tank is being taken down. I am going to put the rock in a shallow (eight inches tops) rubbermaid with the live sand. I am going to set up my orbit pc (5x65 watt) light above the rubbermaid to keep all growth on the rock alive. I am going to put in a powerhead or two, and a phosban to remove phosphates. My new question is, would it be a good idea to put in a few corals or maybe a clam to take advantage of the shallow, bright lighting ill have in the rubbermaid so that when i set my 75 back up the corals and clam would have grown and budded more? i was thinking that would be a good idea

i would suggest waiting until the 75 is set up again...that way you will have time to let the system settle down before you add livestock...the clam wont be too happy being put into a temp tank and then move into another tank in a few weeks plus you wont have a well established tank for the clam yet..
i would do t5's or halides to accomidate clams in a 75g...

is the tank drilled?....this is a good time to drill it and add a sump and you can plumb the 10g frag tank to the 75
or incorporate a section in the sump for a frag tank..

The tank isnt drilled. I have a lifereef sump and a super skimmer 125 with a mag drive. Is it okay if i put some polyp and mushroom frags in, that way when the tank is started they will have grown? the water chemistry will be the same between the rubbermaid and the tank
