So I have finally fed into the acan craze... i recently acquired 9 different acans ranging from 2.5 heads to 9 heads...
How often do you guys feed your Acans???

I got them from Blackbeard and they look beautiful.... He say's he feeds every couple of days...I have been feeding everyday 1 piece of plankton each head..
Can you only feed one of the heads or all need to be fed???

I don't think it makes that much of a difference. I used to target feed fairly often. All I got were algae outbreaks, but then again I was feeding allot. Since I cut back the polyps still extend during feeding time when I feed nutramar.

each head is a separate organism like sun coral. =0)

You don't need to target feed. But it helps speed up growth. I was playing around with feeding certain acans more than others i had in my frag tank and the growth as per new heads is almost double. Every 2-4 days they got a dosing of rods food with the powerheads off. They also responded quicker to food and were more inflated than the rest throughout the day

I had 20 polyps turn into 30 in about 6 months(might be more growth, hard to count), and I had 3 polyps tun into 7 in about 6 months...so...depending on the type, I had anywhere from %50 to %100 growth in about 6 months...that is without target feeding

I have more...these 2 were just examples. The ratios are still in the %50-%100 range

If you just dump food in your tank the acans will eat less and waste more food and more chance of polluting the water. Target feeding is better for long term care. and feeding will speed up growth but these are coral not bamboo . so no matter what its slow compared to ones patience.

if overfeeding is cause for concern of water quality then your filtration method isnt up to par.

i feed very heavily and my nitrates are always zero, phosphates were 0.03 yesterday. The more i feed the better for everyone. Fish AND Corals.

it will be very difficult for anyone to convince me a bunch of food a couple times a week (target feeding) is better than the coral catching some food every day with heavier tank feedings.
