With gas prices rising, and my truck getting 10 mpg, i was wondering if there would be any problems with me transporting coral on my motorcycle? I live in suffolk and i want to purchase coral from MR members but it seems that everyone mainly lives in queens, nyc and brooklin. Has anyone tried this before? Thanks

the only big problems I see is how or where will you put the cooler for the coral, or what happens if you get in to an accident (I assume though that you would have bigger problems than coral in this scenario).

But I have no real experience with this so hopefully someone else will know more.

Kevin (of SarahandKevin) used to transport them all the time on a motorcycle and never seemed to have an issue due to the means of transport.
I'd think a small soft sided cooler bag would be sufficient to pack them in if you keep them away from where heat is generated.
Don't most motorcycles have places to put stuff? :spin:

i use my bicycle to pick up corals when i trade with MR members in teh city.. I have done everything from throw a double bagged coral into my backpack, to duct-taping a styrofoam cooler to the back of my bike during the winter. never lost one yet (hope that doesnt jinx me)

I've used my bicycle to transport coral and its a good exercise.
As for the motorcycle, i say it shouldnt be much of an issue for transport as long as the coral bags dont bounce around too much. I havent tried it yet but will sometime this summer.

I dont have mounted bags on the bike but i have small 1 gal coolers that i can carry in a backpack. As for accident i think i would be more concerned with my own life for that moment. But thanks everyone. And if anyone has had a bad experience please let me know.
