yes that is true, but it would be dosing right into the path of the coral, from two directions.
that will be much less waste than dosing the entire tank. if you found the correct formula the coral likes to eat it should work. btw this is not my idea, this came from some tanks in germany where they have been keeping these corals like this for a while. (there are no links)

If you're going to culture phyto, just use air bubblers. cheap and easy, and they work. http://melevsreef.com/phytoplankton.html

Your idea would completely work, J. but it will polute your tank to start. Once the tank is used to the extra bio load, it will be fine. But to start out adding 2 cups o phyto a day? that's gonna cause a nice big algea outbreak.

use a larger skimmer then? what food is not used by the coral right away could be skimmed out before it pollutes the tank.

A friends father is a scientist in germany, after acros they were looking for the next challenge. they picked the non-photosynthetic corals. there is nothing published on what they are doing, the procedures were just described to me. Germans, way ahead of the curve as usual.

So, get a large skimmer, some plankton reactors, a doser pump, and some tubing.
No fridge needed then, is that the plan?

Seems like this is a "Expert Care" only coral...Good luck...seems like u have a bit of a project on your hands...

to do it correctly it is a project. like Dean said a species tank would be best.
These are not the best corals for a mixed reef.

Thanks for the link Al, I wish my german were better.
