Mushrooms Gone!!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. On Mon Dec 24th I had green & red mushrooms, came back lastnight and they were all gone. The only thing I added to the tank recently was a sea hare and a serpent starfish. The only fish in there is a purple tang, 2 saddleback clowns a coral bandit shrimp. I am really puzzled by this.

Does anyone know what it might be?

How long have you had them? What were they attached to?

They were attach to rocks about 6 inches. There was about 4 pieces.

fred they were open like normal. It just freaks me out that from oneday to another 4 big pieces with about 8 heads on each are totally gone.

they might have came loose and blew off, shroons are hard to kill, ive supper glued over then scraped scratched ect and it wont go away

Rick, they did not come loose. Check this out... Last night I got some mushrooms from another member, I put them in the tank about 10pm, I was so happy there were B E A U T I F U L. It is now going on 7am, turned on my lights and not even 12 hours all are mostly gone. Everything else is okay, such as polyps, candycane, leathers, duncans, etc. WTF can be going on??? It has to be the sea hare. I am going to take it out and flush it down the toilet...

Seahares are obligate herbivores. Give it to me before flushing it.

Check for a gorilla crab.

Were they naturally attached to the rocks when you got them or super glued? I have glued shrooms to rocks only to have them disappear behind rockwork. Then they reappear months later. If they were recently superglued, they may have detatched & rode the wave.

I was only kidding about flushing it. I did take it out and put it in another tank that only has LR and fish. I will see what happens now...

Something ate your shrooms dude. I have seen those astria? starfish eat small baby shrooms in my tank. You probably have a crab or that star fish you put in the tank was eating it.

I think most likely Deanos is right about the crab. Tonight I throw on my cami's with my red flashlight and go on a search and hunt...

Okay everyone. I found out what it was, it was a sally lightfoot crab that was eating my mushrooms...
