I picked up this torch at the swap and all seemed fine til this morning. First there was some slime on one section then when I moved it to take a picture the tenticles swelled up and looks like they exploded. Is the whole torch doomed or can i save it ? Thank you for any help.

Depends on the situation for the most part. If you can find a place it likes, given water quality is good, it will be fine.

What I've noticed is that torches like VERY VERY low flow. Mine is in the lowest current spot in the entire tank and seems to like it a lot. Hope it does well. If that head is seperate it might be a good idea to frag it off and put it else where so the healthy head is less prone to catch the brown jelly, if thats what it is.

I had a head of frogspawn die off and my brain and acan decided the floating pieces would make a good midnight snack. Needless to say I lost a few heads of acan and had a hole of damaged tissue in my brain :smash:

IME theyre kinda hardy, but like the saying, the only predictible fish, or coral, is a dead one.

...

I feel like its just like any stingers (corals)...

If ur water parameters are perfect, nothing should be ding unless of old age....

i think params are a big part of it but other things could cause it like flow, disease+parasites, bullying+stings etc.

Yeah, mine's died off, BUT I found 5 tiny "buds" growning from the sides of the two dead ones. In two years, they've grown really nice. So don't throw it out if you see tiny "buds" growning off on the side of the main stalks.

It's hard to define whether the are hardy or not-I found that they grow fast while they can die easily. When they catch brown jelly disease, they die very quickly and sometimes even the whole colony while they grow quite fast and that they don't seem to demand water quality like SPS.
