Hey there,
I have a frag of nuclear greens just 2 polyps.
Anyway, when I first got them 1 of the polyps opened right up. The second one took its sweet time, I'd say 1 day.
But, as the 3rd day came that second polyp closed, the following day the other polyp closed as well.

This was quite a few days ago now and well...they now have some brown guck on the tips. These polyps are the only zoa's/palys doing this in my tank. All other corals, fish, and other inverts are fine.

Before one of the polyps closed up for good, I noticed a bit of discoloration (from the beginning) on the one that took a while to open. I'd say instead of a nuclear green it was an apple green on a small section of it.

Soooo, are they dead/dying, have I lost the polyps?

Not necessarily.
A pic would be helpful.

Zoas & palys can be on the tempermental side.
Do you know if your lighting is much different than where they came from?
Where do you have them placed in the tank?

You can try the following..try bushing off the gunk with a soft clean (small) paint brush. Or hold them in fromt of a power head til the nast stuff comes off..or a baster.
Then put them on the sand and wait, be patient! Sometimes it takes a while for them to get comfortable :)
