are you on top of your water changes? i have a reef tank set up for a year and 1 month now and i have seen this before.this happens to my tank almost once a month i mark it off on a calander when it starts. then in 3to 5 days it comes back ive ask pet store and they dont know what im taking about but one time this happened and a group of xenias didnt come back to life they just faded away! the same thing happens to my leaters, and trees.i have no idea why or what makes this happen but your not alone.

yea doin a water change a week now. but listen i just found something while inspcting everythign on the tank. i had an ehiem 2217 that was full of water but was not plugged in. i mustve changed the filter out and not plugged it back in a coupl eweeks ago. and this corresponds perfectly with the ph drop and the xenias and zoos melting. when i opened the unit up it smelled like rotten eggs. it ws horrible!! could this be the problem???? i cleane dit out put it back on and am doing a water change. anything else i can do??

I would definitely check your alk levels, xenias are somewhat sensitive to alk levels.
In my case high alk was not agreeable to them.

inline, i think u r right. when the filter wasnt plugged in i guess it went anoxic and brought down the ph/alk of the tank. ive been fighting for weeks to keep the ph above 8. so i think the damage was caused by that. i hope its not too late to come back.

I had a similar experience with my xenia but I cut-off the ones that were melting and save my colony. BTW if you cut the stalks and leave a xenia's piece on the LR it will regrow.
