:sick:I have a colony of generic brown button polyps and I noticed today that some of the bulbs are withering away. it seems as if they are corroding and there is white spots on their stems. Any thoughts on what this may be? there are even stringy substances coming out of the colony. Is this contageous? I am new to keeping corals, any suggestions on treating them, or are they goners for sure? Should I rip them out of the tank? HELP!!!!!:dead1:

From the pics, it appears to be the same symptoms.
This is the first I hear of Button Polyps catching it.
Definitely a type of fungus.

In my experience, it does spread, so I would QT them if you have other polyps in your tank.
Frag off the healthy polyps. The infected polyps don't have a chance.

Damn,
Do you think I should just pull off the infected polyps and keep the same live rock, or just frag everything off the rock and put them on a new piece? Its a large rock, I would like to keep it.

I had this in my tank...horrible..its basically a cancer for Zoas....take out the infected and throw away...any zoa or palythoa in tank not infected just observe....if they start getting infected then there is nothing you can do...from what i know...they will all wither away and melt...after that u have to leave your tank zoaless for a couple of months like 6......sorry dude...good luck...all my zoos melted and then i got new ones and they melted again....this happened last year....just now i can finally keep some zoas...

zoa pox

I had this problem with one of my zoa colonies, and when I moved it to another tank, the problem cleared up on its own. Perhaps due to stronger lighting, or more flow, not sure, but after a couple weeks it got better. Then I returned it to the original tank and it is doing fine. Or, you could try the furan-2 dip - which is supposed to kill the fungus. Good luck.

I moved them into my larger FOWLR tank, and the puffers and triggers arent even the slightest bit interested in it. I guess I am going to leave it alone in there for a while and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that the colony will die and I'll have another piece of live rock for my FOWLR. :sigh:
