I thought it might have been stung by something, but I don't think the tentacles from my acans are long enough, and the PPE weren't in reach.

How close were the acanthastreas?! You'd be surprised by their reach when they sense 'enemy' coral.

Actually, they were in close proximity to one another, but I didn't think they're short tentacles would reach... so Acan tentacles can go-go gadget like the Inspector's arms?!?!

Personally, the ONLY coral I would place nearby an acanthastrea echinata/subechinata, is another a. echinata/subechinata.

A. lordhowensis will get attacked by a. echinata/subechinata by the way

I think that's why they are called cleaner shrimps. They start to clean before you even notice the cooral is dying of stung.

sorry to hear about 1 of your ducans. i agree stinging sweepers may seem more likely. i think when that happens, its time to cool off on coral addition. u can play the coral shuffle n we all play it but its a never ending game.:smile:

btw:cleaner shrimp is call cleaners cause they clean parasite off fishes.:biggrin:
