I'm at a loss with what is going on with a few of my zoa's. I have had 3 colonies with about 100 polyps all have problems.

The first colony dissolved to the point where only 3-5 polyps stayed alive, and now it on the bounce back at probably 20 polyps.

The second colony disappeared entirely, looked great for months, and out of no where stopped opening up, and completely went downhill from there.

The third colony, which has prompted me to write this post, is on the same path as the second colony.

My parameter's have all been within the recommended ranges, and my water quality is great. I change about ~20% every two weeks.

I have many other corals frogspawn, a leather, other softies, and they look good.

All this over a period of about 3 months

If someone can provide me with some insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Yes Mike, the Lugols dip is a good first step --it's also a very good idea to dip ALL new zoas you add to your tank in Lugols before adding them just in case there is a pest on them.

Have you has any sort of slime forming on the top of the closed zoas?
Also curious if there are any other zoas in the tank that are not affected?

Can you post a pic of the current colony that is in trouble?

I finally discovered a gorilla crab in my tank - but not before it snacked on two colonies of my zoos... I was also stumped - it didn't look like brown jelly, or any other infectious disease because other colonies were doing great.

I agree with Zoous. It may be a gorilla crab.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I'm beginning to think that it's some kinda of bacteria/worm problem. The problem with the crab theory is that the zoo's do not disappear immediately, they slowly go from be plump to a thin, and eventually turns whitish and then dissolves away completely.

I'm going to pickup lugol's and flatworm, unless anyone can suggest a better alternative. Thanks again
