Gave my tank a haircut since corals were starting to kill each other. I also experimented with overdosing on aspartic acid (double dosed) which caused some corals to RTN, :( , (this is why I am so hesitate on giving up the dosage, since it needs to be EXACT)!

Anyway this is the remains of my preventive medicine and some colony losses. SUCKS but I didn't lose anything that isn't still alive and well in my tank as a smaller piece.

Sucks man...

Hey Shaun
Sorry to see your loss, but remember your experimental tests are all for good intentions. 1 step back, but soon 2 steps forward....

Keep the faith

THANKS guys! But I need to stress that in the big picture I didn't lose anything except some of the grown in look that my tank was acquiring.

My tank had been growing out of control! I decided to see if I could get better results and what would happen if I double dosed aspartic acid above the dosage I was using! Unfortunately I messed it up a bit in that much of my SPS browned out and I lossed some colonies (I am still uncertain if it was the corals killing each other due to closeness or it was the increase). I was able to frag off pieces of all that was lost and those frags are doing fine at the moment.

shaun what is the exact dosage u recc. on a tank such as yours... ive been using maybe a 1/4 teaspoon for a 15 gallon container of rodi top off water and i think its not enough... i stopped using it for a week or 2 cause ive actually been waiting to ask you wat was a good dose to start at and wanted to see what happens after stopping dosage after approx. 1 month of usage... my tank is very nicely stocked with sps frags that are starting to grow very nicely wat do u recc. shaun... thanks a bunch man.....

and im sorry to see those corals dead :sad2: but you are def. doing a great job with your experiments... your tank shows it...

Shaun, my corals have been growing into each other for some time. I haven't gotten in there to separate them. At the moment, only a green monti digi (which I have been actively trying to kill anyway) and 1 purple nana which is surrounded on all 4 sides are showing signs of dying and recession. Most are burning each other a little and weaving around themselves. I'll post some pics when my lighting comes on.
As for the aspartic acid, I already OD'ed and caused recession on my ultra strawberry prostrata. I cannot dose the way Shuan does, so I dose daily. 1/8th teaspoon has shown good for me. I have 260 gallons total water volume.

1/8 teaspoon... :)... thanks chris... chris are you dosing that 1/8th teaspoon in one shot... cause what i was doing was putting about one of those green lil cups that come with the bottle (i think its less then 1/4 teaspoon) in a 18 gallon reservoir of top off water and it would dose it within 4 days what and how are you dosing it chris... thanks man...

shaun any words of wisdom.... please i would love to here from the mad scientist ;) :lol2:

I would prefer Shaun's method. I can't do that because my Dialyseas is my ATO. I'd say for your size tank to stick with those numbers. Your water volume is about half mine and I dose 4 to 5 times per week all at once. I would much rather space it out, just like I do with 2 part.
