I have some xenia that has grown, and parts have detached from the mother colony and moved and attached themselves to another rock in my tank and are threatening other coral. The rock is large and removing it and breaking off the pieces that contain the xenia would be difficult because of the size and also other corals (sps, zoos) have encrusted/attached themselves to the same rock and I do not want to damage them.

Any suggestions on how I can cut back and rid these roaming xenia?

Take the rock out and place salt directly on the xenia and xenia only. Leave it for a bit then rinse the rock out in a bin of saltwater to get that excess salt off. Perhaps use kalk paste to further ensure the xenia is gone. Super hot water works as well but be carefull where it goes, rock is porous.

Taking out the rock and salting/kalking isn't a viable option.

I've heard people scrape off and then crazy glue over where it was so it doesn't grow back. I've just been pulling them off the rock, little wiggle and some gentle pressure and they come off with leaving very little behind. Can tickle it with a razor a bit and they come off. Just gotto keep up with them. Takes about 2 weeks for them to grow enough to pull off.

others here on mr frag the xenia and sell it.. if your not able to sell it donate it to someone thats just starting at tank and looking for xenia frags.... this would be done by removing the base with a sharp blade, box cutter, or scalpal... sometimes you can just dig your nail under the base of it and peal it off.... if not that method than just with a pair of siccors just cut close to the base...

Donate it to a noob, don't do that they will curse you 6 months later; :joke:

I started putting ruble around the xenia; attaching it with epoxy. When the xenia moves the rubble it I pull it out and have an instant frag. The stuff still grows everywhere and is a nuisance.

Thanks for the advice. I'll first try wiggling and pulling them off or if necessary cutting them close to the base. I saw someone write on another website that squirting Joe's Juice or something similar into each mouth will shrivel them up, just like aiptasia.
