I Picked up a nice maze Platygyra from NW today- and for a good price even!
I've read conflicting views on how much light this coral wants/needs.
I want to place it at the top of my tank. I burn two 250w10k XM's - 8 inches
from the surface of the water. The top of the brain would be about 12-13 inches from the light.
If I put screens up and remove them slowly over a period of days,
do you think I would have any problems with bleaching or bad PE?
I have a different species of Platygyra sitting 15" below the lights and,
that one seems to be doing fine?!

Just so happens this coral was on the next page to something I was researching this morning...from Sprung - Platgyra "tolerate a wide range of light regimes and appreciate slight currents, which stimulate the polyps to open. Strong illumination enhances growth. ..strong but indirect illumination for best color development...they can produce amazingly long sweeper tentacles at night..."

So use the screen if it came from a tank without lights as strong as yours until it's acclimated to being up at the top.
