Can anyone tell me what type of mushroom coral is this?

It doesn't open fully even with the light on. And it closes completely after the light shut.

any idea? Thanks

Looks like a closed Pagoda Cup. Where did you get it and where is it now?

I got it from H2O on Queens Blvd. It's in my tank right now

I have another White Tip Mushroom and it is doing great in my tank.

How can I make it open? Maybe the water current is too strong?

I'm going to move him to another spot and see.

It's a Pagoda Cup and it was fully opened when it was in the fish store.

I moved it to a spot where it has less water movement.

There are some very long white string attached to the cup. Is it a bad sign?

Thanks

Now we know it is a cup coral.

Can anyone give me some suggestions or advices on how to care for it?

It is supposed to be an easy and hardy coral according to the info on the net and the guy at the store told me the same thing.

But why it is still closed?

Never buy any piece of coral without researching it's care and requirements first. Sometimes it's as easy as going to the book section of most LFS's and reading about the coral.

Guys,

I moved it to a spot where it has much less water movement. Now it is fully open like a flower. :lol2:

I will take a pic later. The tank has finished cycle since last weekend. I have been testing the water every single day since the beginning.
The Ammonia and Nitrite readings are always 0 since last Friday.
Nitrate is at a little above 10 PPM. I will do another 25% w/c this coming weekend.

I have my lights on 8-9 hours a day for the past few days and I've never seen any algae in my tank. so what's the deal on that? Maybe my water is too clean?? :lol2:

You guys have been telling me I will get Algae in my tank no matter what. Now I'm running out of reasons to get the cleaning crew.

Thanks

Here are some pics of the invert n the tank.
The rocks are showing colors and I wouldn't say the Cup Coral is 100% open, but it is doing much better than before.

Still can't find any Algae! This means no cleaning crew for me. :screama:
