i just found that my acros are covered with red bugs, havent put anything new in to the tank in a long time... i know my treatment options are either dip or use inteceptor which i have for my dog..

idione dip-- does it have to be Lugols or can you use OTC stuff and is this effective and what is the best way to dose and what is possible coral damage. also do red bugs live outside acros, i know they eat their slime.

inteceptor-- not a first choice because i have a ton of snails some shrimp and crabs and a mandrian to feed... i would likely lose all of them to dose intecpetor..

Please share some of your experiences with these bugs... at least its not aefw

Ditto.
I only heard interceptor will work for red bugs. The dip wont work for them.

Also, the snails are fine with interceptor, but the crabs will likely die so remove them prior treatment. Surprisingly, my shrimps survived interceptor, although they got really weird on the movement, like they were drunk. The recommended water changes/carbon helped that though.

Also, if you have any acro crabs, make sure to remove them because they're priceless! Not to say the other crabs aren't worthy, but you can easily buy more hermits, etc.

What is the dose for inteceptor, are there any bad side effects for using too much???
if i round up all the snails and crabs (acro) and stuff and make a qt tank how long should i wait before adding themback to the main tank.. after running carbon and water changes

There are different thoughts on this. Some overdose and run carbon and change water very quickly while others dose lightly and let it run it's course in the tank. Both had the same results... no more red bugs. If it were me... I hate to say it, but I'd remove all the crabs and shrimp I possibly could and hit it with a really heavy dose and get it over with. Worked for Rich... but I have no experience with this. Contact him.
So Irisservice... TMPC will kill red bugs if used as a dip? That sounds like an option as well. Are there any predators? Wrasses and mandarins don't eat red bugs?

I can't find the link with the exact dosage recommendations (ok I didn't look) but it's roughly 3/4 tab of the Large Dog per 55 gallons. I ran it for 48 hours, water change waited 3 days hit it again, water change waited 4 days hit it again big water change, then put all the inverts back in. That took care of it for me but I've seen all manner of recommendations from every 24 hours to a 3 week treatment!

i have a dog, so i actually have a real reason for having them, i would say most dog owners use it. Heartworm is a very contagious disease and must be given monthly to a dog. I can get some for you use when i go to the vet, i have a few now if you really need them. i think they are around $5 a pill.
