Active Reefer
I'm about 2 months into a 125g. All water readings are good. Currently no algae blooms.

I have seen several pics on this site of small sponges. I have several throughout my tank.

Im just strarting to see something that is bothering me. I have no camera so I'll try to describe what I see and turn it over to you guys. You been helpfull beyond belief thus far...

I have 135 pounds of liverock. Coraline starting to take off. Thing is I have 2 spots in the back of the tank that I cant really look into. Shouldn't have mounded I guess. So....

One day while looking into the side of the tank I noticed a white sack like thing hanging, bit smaller than a dime, but couldn't see what it was hanging from. couple days later it broke off and fell. Disappeared in a day or two. A week later another sack formed....

Well, now I think I can see where these are coming from. From the front of the tank I can see a spot "back" there that has a golf ball sized white growth that is getting larger(i can see it now as opposed to a week ago). I can only see a portion of it. I believe these sacks are falling from this.
This thing looks just like a golf ball. Same size and all.

A ledge rock that sits on top of this is now covered on the bottom with like a white spongy carpet that is creeping to the front rather rapidly.. I touched this stuff and it "smeared"....

To get to this golf ball I would have to take half my tank apart. I have a pearl bubble, frogspawn, long tenticle plate and daisy polyp as of now. All doin wonderfull.

Before I start dismantling, any one have any ideas? I remember a post on here where someone described a white sponge that kills reefs, or something to that effect. Can't find it now of course..

Help? Anyone with this experience?

Thx in advance
Jim

dunno what type of sponge it is, but do you have access to it with a siphon hose?

try putting a piece of pvc on the end of a hose, with a razor blade epoxied to the end of the pvc

after starting a siphon, slice and dice, directly to the terlet ;)
