i have some very soft looking hair algae growing on the inside of one of my 1200gph koralias and on the rocks directly in front of the flow as well. i was under the impression that most algae does best in medium/low flow areas of the tank? i know that i have plenty of fuel for any algae to grow, since i use treated tap water still, and feed heavily, but my question is- is this normal or do i have some crazy strain of hair algae?
no one seems to want to have a go at eating it either. is that due to the massive current in that area, or do i need to re-introduce hermits again?

algaes inhabit pretty much every flow type environment that exists ;)

most likely some type of 'turf' /blue green species-there are many that 'film' over rocks, etc., in surge zone environs

If it has a 'feathery' appearance or looks like delicate fern leaves it may be Bryopsis. Actually a very 'pretty' hair algae but much harder to get under control as few organisms seem to enjoy munching on it.

i recently bought some "margarita" snails, and they seem to like it.
i have read that these (margarita snails) are cold water snails and will eventually die in a warm water tank?

btw, the hair algae is not feathery, but more like moss. very thick groups here and there, but it's only growing directly in front of/on the powerhead

it will absolutely, and definitely go away if you increase the rate of phosphate removal, either via a chemical media, or by larger phosphate free water changes

snails will only 'relocate' the algae-trying to get rid of algae by introducing more (all are phosphate producing) animals is akin to trying to put a fire out with gasoline ;)

you're merely adding to the difficulty level for removing algae ;)

(snail poop is extremely high in PO4)

I have seen bristle worms eating hair algae in my tank, until it was all gone,

Not sure what they feed on now.....

the only way ive really ever gotten RID of hair alagae is to put a big shell over it untill it dies. In my case .. it never came back.
