Gulf View calls this a light bulb anemone (order of actniaria)?

I have several in my tank. Are they a problem?

Looks like Entacmaea quadricolor to me, and most reefers think highly of them. All anemones require a stable tank and are some of the more difficult creatures to care for. This specimen is very translucent but that may be a result of being light deprived for an extended period. Keep it in a high-light area and the coloration will likely return. Also the white rings around the equator of the bulbs is a very good indicator of Entacmaea quadricolor.

Good find!

I have seen one locally here that is about 30" in diameter across its oral disc... of course it is several years old. These live a long time if kept happy and will not move from their location unless they don't like their environment. But they do have the potential to grow large and/or split as a method of reproduction.

That''s almost like saying that -----------fish is a member of the Class: Actinopterygii.
All Anemones are a members of the Order: Actiniaria. :)

Now as far as these critters being Entacmaea quadricolor I would say no.
E. quads are not endemic to the coast of Florida or Gulf of Mexico. From what I've read so far on these is that they are an unknown ( unrecorded ) species of Anemone. The only true way is to get a living or dead animal, examine the tentacles, base, oral cavity and thru dissection the gut and other organs to see if this is a *close* relative to any classified Anemone or is truly an unclassified one in itself.

Good call david, I didn't notice the reference to gulf view.

FWIW you may be able to find more information on this previously undescribed specis in "Reef Creatures" Pg. 94
