What is this?

There are several of these showing up in my tank on the rocks. The white tubular thing.

This photo makes these things look white. They are actually almost transparent, they appear to look like single anenome tenacles.

I did a search on Leucilla sponges and the pic I see at http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish2/aqfm/1998/feb/wb/default.asp looks a lot more calcerous. But then again, I don't know.

yup, they are Leucilla sponges. i have a ton of them in my 20 gal. the yare everywhere. on the LR, several on hte base of my feather duster, some in my skimmer. Are they beneficial or what?

They are harmless. Their growth simply indicates you have food in your water, generally a good thing.

finally...ive been wonderin about them too. i could never really describe them to anyone...but i too have thousands probably.

I have tiny white things on the glass, look kind of like cacoons, are they snails, and are they harmful?
