Hi,

I just bought a nice expensive peice of Florida liverock that had a Christmas tree worm and, growing near it, these brown antler looking things. I thought they were cool but when I got them home, the antler things had broken off. They feel rubbery and were about 3 cm long with little branches. The base of these antler things are still attached to the rock. What the heck are they and will they grow back? I thought they looked pretty cool. Thanks.

FL_Seagull,

It doesn't really look like the picture in the Hithchiker's FAQ. The algae in that picture looks flat and is very branched... The length of mine was round and had only a few short branches ending in sharp tips.

I have lots of those things too. They seem to grow in areas of low current. I don't know if I spelled the name right but they are bryzoans.

Hang Loose!
