small anemone in sand

Wondering if these are going to be a problem. Noticed the first one a couple of months ago, now have six. Body is about 1/8" diameter, with cone top, tentacles 1/2" long. Tentacles normally lay flat but will reach up. Body and tentacles will completely disappear in sand if disturbed.

Great pics, but I've not seen an anemone that looks like that... if the tentacles seem to extend very far beyond the body, decidedly uneducated guess is something like or similar to a hydra. I bet Galleon would know, as cnidarians seem to be his specialty.

i actually have a couple of those that show up in my tank once in awhile, i also wondered what they are.

Found another under a rock, angle shows the crown a bit better. Tentacles don't show up very good as are translucence expect for the tips, total length about 3/4".

Looks like a SPAGHETTI WORM to me... But i'm no pro.

Do spaghetti worms sting? Seems if a snail passes over these things, the snail will retract way back into it's shell.

Well got more and they have turned one side of my tank into a mine field for snails. If they go near what ever these things are, the snail will completely retract into their shells and wait rescue. Don't seem to bother the hermits.

Any ideas on how to thin them out?

I'm not sure what they are,,,, look like some kind of glass anemone to me,,, sure aren't spaghetti worms,, I have hundreds of 'em and they don't look anything like that.

I'd treat them like aiptasia,,,, inject with kalk,, cover with epoxy,,, joes juice,,, voodoo dolls,, whatever works.

I have a das75 tank as well,,, love it.

Spoke too soon about the hermits, just seen this.

It's a small crab (shell is ~3/8") but this thing was holding tight. Doesn't show that good in the pic, but there's a little trench in front of the hermit caused as it was being dragged backwards.

Don't think I'll be able to kalk them as they retract fully into sand if you go near them.

Could you possibly suck them out of the sand with a siphon? It might not get rid of them completely, but it may thin them out and give yer snails a break for a while...

I second that Hydroid notion. Although I have never seen them like that or as aggressive as that
