I found this worm in my substrate. An ID would be greatly appreciated (I don't need genus/species; I would like a 'common' name, e.g. it's not a feather duster, it's not a bristleworm, it's a ...)

The picture is of the worm between the glass and the substrate. Its diameter is on the order of 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch.

Thanks!

Would the redoubtable John Brandt speculate that this is perhaps a peanut worm? He's been spot on on all the other ID's (good call with the limpet, I never thought limpets had external mantles...).

And, happy new year everyone!

Hy, don't you know I've been avoiding this one?

I don't know what this is. It would help if we could see more of it. Next time you find it gently lift it out of the sand and take a bunch of pictures. Focus on the head too.

It looks unsegmented. It could even be a flatworm.

Hey, John,

I'm not much of a photographer (it's not the camera, it's the operator  ), but I'll do my best.

It ingests substrate, and it's unsegmented. The head looks like it has frilly short tentacle thingies. It's always under the substrate; I spotted it because it was against the glass. It's now away from the glass, and I imagine 1" under the substrate.

That said, you are spot on with just about all the ID's.
