These two anemone looking things appeared on my live rock this past month. The rock they are growing on has been in the tank over 18 months. The last thing I added to my tank was a small mushroom rock over 6 months ago.

They are about 1 inch in diameter including what I consider to be tentacles. The tentacles are transparent with white bulbs on the tips.
The pink interior disk is about 1/2 of an inch and in the center is a raised, white, marquise shape.

Doesn't really look like any picture of aiptasia I've ever seen, and I'm curious if this is something that needs to be disposed of asap.

It's hard to tell, that pic is not the best. Does it look like this? This is a solitary polyp, and it matches your description. It's nothing to worry about, so they say.

weazel,
First off, welcome to Reefs.org!

I believe your cnidarian is Pseudocorynactis carribbeorum. Is the LR from the caribbean? They can reproduce asexually, but IME, they don't reproduce very quickly. One of mine is touching a mushroom coral, and neither one seems to be damaged. If you have Delbeek and Sprung's Volume Two of The Reef Aquarium, this species is listed.

Hwarang, your coral polyp looks like some type of stony coral, if I'm interpreting the pic correctly.

Thank you both for your replies. My apologies for not having better pictures.

Matt, I looked at some pictures of Pseudocorynactis, and I am certain that you are correct in your identification.

Thanks again!
