Smoke from my live rock

I am just wondering if someone can tell me what would make something that I can only explain as looking like smoke coming out of a piece of live rock. My husband said that he saw something brown in the rock and the smoke was coming from it. He couldn't see what the brown thing was he only saw the very end of it. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a good thing or is it going to harm my tank? Sorry but I am very new at this. And thanks for the quick reply.

It will do no harm, and it's a very good indication that your live rock is of fairly good quality. If you've just set up the tank, be careful not to let ammo and nitrites spike to high or he'll kick.

SM, that is the most "boring" answer that I am looking for. I was going to suggest those were what's left of clam orgy.

I will watch for it to happen again and I will try to get a picture. I didn't see it happen my husband did, I also think it would be cool to see but I will have to keep my eyes peeled. If I can get a pic I will post. Thanks for all the help.
