I have tried to pull these feathery things (hydra?) from the rocks without too much success. Please advise on how to remove them? or should I just leave them alone.

From what I can see they look like Feather dusters. They are good for your tank and help filter out unwanted stuff. I have lots of them and they do no harm only good. Enjoy them

those are not feather dusters-no way

dusters do not have multiple branches coming off of both sides of a 'stalk'

not sure if they are 'hydroids'-or if they are dangerous-hopefully someone else will chime in..
